system slow performance

November 30, 2007

Say your laptop/desktop computer is running Über slow.. yung parang after 10,000 years pa bago magboot.. Aba, if that's the issue, matulog ka muna. :P Just kidding.. :D

I'm afraid that the following troubleshooting steps would only be applicable to some operating systems i.e. Windows Vista and Windows XP.

WINDOWS VISTA

  1. Boot to safe mode (You can do this by pressing F8 at the manufacturer's logo. BTW, if there's no mouse, use the arrow keys and ENTER to make your selection)

  2. Check if you're having the same problem there and do the following:

    • if you are, it's a possible HW issue. Have your memory and HD checked. No need to proceed to Step 3 obviously. :P

    • if you aren't, then go to Start>Start/Search>type MSCONFIG>under General, click on Selective Startup, uncheck Load Startup Items>Apply>OK

  3. Restart the computer.

WINDOWS XP

    • if you aren't, then go to Start>Run>MSCONFIG>under General, set it to Selective Startup, uncheck first two (2) boxes and uncheck Load Startup Items.>Apply>Close

  3.  Restart the computer.

Easy?

Nice!
I have a laptop - Sony Vaio VGN-N220E with 15.4-inch Widescreen, 1.6 GHz Intel Core Duo processor, 1.5 GB RAM - running on Windows Vista Home Premium. The OS is preinstalled together with a bunch of Softwares that I don’t really need, which I uninstalled hoping that it would run faster. Pero walang pinagbago, this i guess sa operating system nga ang dahilan. I still prefer my old laptop - Sony Vaio B100B - smaller and lighter, XP lang OS.

Then, I read your post. Tamanga sabi nila na “if you can’t see it, it doesn’t mean it’s not there.” wahaha

So I hit Windows Key + R, type msconfig then checked the starp up tab. I can’t do more than disable the GrooveMonitor Utility(From Office 2007), Napstershell, and Windows defender. Tsaka Microsoft Works. Dami ko tinanggal. Personally I don’t like windows defender.. sabad sabad lang na sya sa system when I have own anti-virus.

Restarted, I can’t feel the difference. For me Vista just make everything slower, siguro. hehehe. Hindi pa naman sya “painfully slow,” but i can see the difference when I’m on my desktop(with same specs) windows XP nga lang ang OS.

Good Morning!

Did you set it to selective start-up? ako naman, I have my compaq presario c573TU. 15.4″ WXGA. 1.6GHz Intel Celeron M. 512MB RAM. XP Pro. It’s not slow at all kahit ganyan lang specs. I only play POKEMON on it. :D Hehehe.. this notebook did not come with any OS. Pwede kong lagyan kahit ano. :D Basta meron lang drivers. :) WhAHAHA!!!

BTW, Vista kasi is a resource hog. Check mo website ng Sony for XP drivers. Make sure muna na meron kang Vista recovery CDs nila before you do that. :D

Good morning! ^.^

Yup. Selective startup.

Malaking problema yan. Punta ako ng Sony.com and check the drivers… Wala! Walang XP drivers. Search google.. maraming pala humahanap ng drivers din for XP. At ang sony daw won’t provide xp drivers for that model.

Yung mga posters provide links ng mga drivers from the manufacturer na talaga, hindi na sa sony. I can’t take that risk. I’ll wait na lang when sony changed their minds about the XP Drivers.. hehehe hopefully.

No new post since Nov 30? Hmmm.. may sakit ka? :)

Ngaakk!! Sad naman.. Toshiba, due to very high demand for XP drivers, has provided them as well as going as far as providing XP downgrade discs for notebooks running on Vista Business and Ultimate (accdng to XP Downgrade Rights)

BTW, walang new posts kasi tinatamad mag-online. :D Saka andyan kasi yung landlady namin. Di ako makapag-dialup! Hahahah..

:) Sana matauhan ang sony! “Due to high demand” Ang mahal naman ng toshiba sobra. I think, when it comes to quality talo naman ng toshiba ang ibang brands.. I’m not sure.. ang dell matibay din.. ang IBM parang toughbook.. hehehe. kahit ano basta hindi nasisira because of User Error.

Dial-up? Apply ka Smart Bro!

Hahaha.. Magcomplain ka! :D I’m pretty sure na tatawagan ka ng Sony for customer care. :D

Asa pa ako sa SMART BRO di ba? Eh based from the forums and reviews, SMART is kupal! Na-experience ko rin personally customer service nila. Stressed ako palagi if I have to deal with them.

But since, it’s wireless, something can go wrong anytime, and most problem naman is “provider error”. hehehe.

Ay off topic na.

Posted by Kaldong at December 4, 2007, 10:23 am

Hahaha.. kahit di mo na nga ata i-register yan eh.. :D Support ka pa rin nila.. Yan yung nangyari sa laptop ko.

WAG KAYO KUKUHA NG SMARTBRO PLUG-IT PREPAID! PALPAK YAN!
Pag hindi 3G or hsdpa celsite naka-cover sa inyo GPRS laglag ng signal mo daig ka pa ng naka-dial up. Mabbwiset ka lang. Sa manila maraming 3g e panu kung out of town ka? dun pa naman ito madalas gamitin sabi nga nila browse anywhere 7X faster than dial up! Malaking kasinungalingan yan.

Manloloko.

kindly refrain from posting comments for SMART Bro Prepaid in this blog post. this was not for that.

i am not siding with SMART on this.

as a customer, you should basically know the product before making a purchase i.e. feedbacks from other people who’ve used the product. therefore, you have nobody to blame but yourselves if said product does not meet your specifications. and as with every electronic device, this has also its own limitations.

if you have any issues with SMART Bro Prepaid, kindly take it up with SMART Customer Service. they would be willing to see you rant about your experience.

again, if it doesn’t work, then it’s not for you.

thank you.
